In 1978, he purchased a Laurent Giles ‘Vertue’ timber yacht. After two summers sailing the west coasts of Ireland and Scotland, he sailed for the Mediterranean and then on to Australia via the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Yacht deliveries and a year maintaining the machinery on a commercial dive vessel working out of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain supported the lifestyle.
In 1988 Michael qualified as a shipwright with an apprenticeship under two Halvorsen trained shipwrights at Allcraft Boats. He relocated his shipwright business to Port Stephens in 1993 to build timber composite yachts, for 12 years prior to founding E-Marine Survey in July 2004.
Restoration, repair and construction of fibreglass, timber, composite and steel vessels. Michael specialised in interior joinery, stainless steel rails and fittings, steel fabrication, masts, rigging, engine and shaft installations, and the application of polyurethane and protective coatings.
