In 1978, Michael purchased a Laurent Giles ‘Vertue’ timber yacht. He then spent two summers sailing the west coasts of Ireland and Scotland. After that he sailed to the Mediterranean. Next on to Australia via the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. His lifestyle was supported by yacht deliveries and maintaining the machinery on a commercial dive vessel working out of Dubai.
In 1988 Michael qualified as a shipwright with an apprenticeship under two Halvorsen trained shipwrights at Allcraft Boats. He relocated his shipwright business to Port Stephens in 1993 to build timber composite yachts for 12 years. He established E-Marine Survey in July 2004.
